Fred Jacobs Charts Radio’s New Course


JACOBS MEDIA’s TECHSURVEY 2018, which will have its debut at the upcoming WORLDWIDE RADIO SUMMIT 2018 at NOON on THURSDAY, MAY 3rd, consists of more than 64,000 respondents representing well more than 500 radio stations across NORTH AMERICA.


The surveys were completed in JANUARY and FEBRUARY. THE JACOBS MEDIA team has been busily compiling the data and searching for new insights. Here’s a sneak peek at one of the key data points from the study: 


Most Smart Speaker Owners Have Not Heard Radio Stations Promoting These Devices 


JACOBS MEDIA Pres. FRED JACOBS, who will present TECHSURVEY 2018 at WWRS 2018, commented, “Smart speakers are the hot new gadget, but a challenge for radio isn’t just developing ‘skills,’ but marketing them.  Our data reveals that only three in ten owners of devices like the Amazon Echo recall hearing them promoted on the radio.’




This years JACOBS TECHSURVEY 2018, brought to you by CAPITOL RECORDS, will answer radio’s questions about smart speakers – ownership data, as well as essential information about how they’re used by radio listeners.  


JACOBS concluded, “For radio, the smart speaker revolution signals opportunity – especially for at-home listening.  But stations will need to go to school to execute an effective strategy.
